To see the schedule of
services at Christ Church, please refer to our calendar page. The
Episcopal Church is a member of the world-wide Anglican community. As an Episcopal
church we use the Book of
Common Prayer for our services. The usual Sunday service consists of two parts:
 |
The service of the Table, at which we celebrate the living presence of
Christ amongst by consecrating and sharing
bread and wine. |
Special services such as major feasts, baptism, wedding,
or confirmation have their own forms,
but Holy Communion is considered to be the central act of corporate worship.
Worship at Christ Church is supported by parishioners in a variety of ways. Please
speak to one of the clergy if you are interested in joining one of these organizations.
Acolytes - Both adult and youth members assist the clergy during services.
Altar Guild - This guild cares for the altars, providing their
furnishings and decorations, flowers, plants, wine, bread, candles, linens, and vestments.
Music -
The senior choir welcomes new singers and provides music for the Sunday service
September through June. An Intergenerational hand bell group meets
weekly.
Greeters - These volunteers welcome worshipers to the church, and
assist the elderly and disabled. They also assist visitors by introducing them to other
parishioners during coffee hour following services.
Lay Eucharist Ministers - LEMs are licensed by the Bishop to serve the
Church by administering the chalice during Eucharist. In addition, some are licensed to
administer communion to the sick and shut-in.
Lay Readers and Intercessors - Lay Readers read the
old testament lesson and the epistle at all
services, and Intercessors lead the Prayers of the People at the 10:15 AM service.
Oblation Bearers - Two people bring the bread and wine to the altar at
the offertory.
Healing Ministers - Lay members of the Order
of St. Luke the Physician are available during the Eucharist at the
10:15 service to pray with those who want to ask for God's healing help
for themselves or for others.
Ushers - Ushers assist at Sunday services by seating, receiving the
offering, and directing the orderly flow of communicants to the altar rail.
The Labyrinth
is a meditation tool that is copied from a design carved into the floor of Chartres
Cathedral and brought to the Bay Area as part of Grace Cathedral's
Quest program. Our copy of the labyrinth is looking for a volunteer to take
charge of scheduling and setup.
